Australian designers are known the world over for nailing the laidback fashion aesthetic, none more so than Emma Hulholland— the Sydney-based designer behind the label Emma Mulholland on Holiday. Known for vibrant, vacation inspired sets, hoodies and dresses, it’s no surprise the brand has become a fast favourite of the Gen Z ‘It’ girl, counting the likes of Emma Chamberlain, Gigi Hadid, Hailey Bieber, Tate McRae and Sofia Richie as fans.
Launching the eponymous label in 2013, before branching into homewares, knit and denim, the designer is now adding a new category to her EM on Holiday holster: gender-neutral footwear and accessories in collaboration with iconic skate brand VANS.
Maintaining her souvenir-inspired aesthetic and fusing it with VANS’ iconic skateboarding style, the collection will include quintessential VANS styles like the Classic Checkerboard Slip-On and Old Skool, which the Aussie designer has transformed by adding synonymous Happy Hibiscus, Olive and Purple Check prints.
In keeping with the explosion of lounge wear (thanks to the pandemic), Gen Z’s desire for comfort and the California cool personified by VANS, the range also includes a hoodie, matching bike shorts, overalls and tees, reminiscent of the indie brand’s most popular styles and adapted with a signature EM flair.
No doubt a collaboration to watch, the Emma Mulholland on Holiday x VANS partnership is evidence of the dopamine dressing, nostalgia inducing aesthetic flooding our TikTok feeds, being popularised by creators and high fashion models alike— also speaking broadly to the fact that we all deserve a tropical holiday.
