Taylor Swift has responded to a sexist joke made at her expense in the new Netflix series, ‘Ginny & Georgia.’

The show, which follows a mother and daughter as they settle into life in a new town, came under fire earlier this week after Taylor Swift fans took issue with a joke made about the artist’s dating life.

“What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift,” main character Ginny quips.

Swifties ~swiftly~ came to the 31-year-old’s defense, calling the joke lazy, overdone, and sexist. Fans also flooded film and television review site Rotten Tomatoes with negative reviews for the show.

Now, the Folklore singer has responded to the backlash in agreement with her loyal stans.

“Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back,” Taylor tweeted to her nearly 89 million followers. “How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY. Also, @netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you. Happy Women’s History Month I guess.”

Last year, Taylor released a documentary with the streaming service called Miss Americana.

Directed by Emmy award-winning director, Lana Wilson, the documentary follows Taylor through several years of her career, including her year out of the spotlight following her very public cancellation by Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

“I became the person everyone wanted me to be,” Taylor says in doc of her public image. She says being cancelled “woke me up from constantly fighting for people’s respect” and that she found happiness in her year off without anyone else’s input.

The documentary also captures the songtress’ decision to finally voice her opinion on politics. After staying quiet during the 2016 election (for which she received a lot of backlash), Taylor posted a lengthy Instagram caption in 2018 speaking out against a Republican Tenessee senate nominee and endorsing two Democrat candidates. “I need to be on the right side of history,” Taylor says before posting to her Instagram.

The documentary received rave reviews, with many applauding the artist for tackling difficult topics, including her own internalised misogyny, throughout the film.

Netflix has not responded to Taylor’s complaint or the backlash surrounding Ginny & Georgia at the time of publication.
