Teen sensation JoJo Siwa has ditched the bows and face glitter for a totally glam look with a little help from James Charles.
In a new video for the beauty guru’s channel, James gives JoJo her first-ever full beat makeover— something he says he’s been waiting “two years” to do.
The friends also posted multiple photos and TikTok videos of JoJo’s transformation, which includes James’ signature cut crease, nude lip, and heavy nose contour. JoJo also let her hair down, sporting a deep side part and soft waves for some old Hollywood glamour.
Understandably, fans are freaking out about the dramatic transformation.
JoJo, who amassed over 11 million subscribers after a stint on Dance Moms, has maintained a heavily branded public persona since 2015. This persona includes a very specific look which JoJo rarely steers away from— mainly colourful, sparkly costumes and a tight high-ponytail adorned with elaborate bows.
Her signature look has become a huge part of the character she plays for fans, most of whom are young children.
JoJo’s more mature look has many comparing the viral star to fellow YouTuber NikkieTutorials, who tweeted that she also sees the resemblance herself, writing, “HELLO GUYS… it’s my TWIN.”
As JoJo has her teen years, her family and management team have found themselves under scrutiny for their role in “forcing” the 17-year-old to continue to play this juvenile character.
Though JoJo has gone on record claiming she chooses to still play the part and wear her hair in her signature high pony, critics are concerned for the teen who doesn’t seem to be allowed to grow up.
JoJo’s collaboration with James Charles is one of multiple ways the star is slowly shedding her child-like persona as of late.
Earlier this year, JoJo shocked fans when she posted a TikTok letting her hair down, revealing a more pared-back, natural-looking version of herself without the bells and whistles.
In early August, the singer also confirmed that she is dating Mark Bontempo, brother of influencer Madison Bontempo Fisher.
Fans speculate that her management contract ends on her 18th birthday. Could this be the beginning of a new era for JoJo Siwa?
