BLACKPINK’s Lisa Makes History As First K-Pop Soloist To Be Nominated For A VMA

Some more good news for Blinks!

Just weeks after it was announced that Blackpink would be returning with new music after a two-year haitus, fans of the record-breaking girl group are celebrating some more exciting news as VMA nominations have been revealed.

Blackpink has been nominated for Best Metaverse Performance (PUBG), while idol Lisa has made history as the first K-Pop soloist to be nominated for a VMA in the category of Best K-Pop for her single, Lalisa.

Lisa’s nomination is alongside BTS, SEVENTEEN, ITZY, TWICE, and Stray Kids.

The nominated single, Lalisa, is off Lisa’s debut album of the same name.

Following its September 2021 release, the album sold over 736,000 copies in its first week in South Korea and the music video for the single reached 73.6 million YouTube views within its first 24 hours. This made it the most-viewed music video in the first 24 hours on the platform by a solo artist.

Lisa’s nomination comes as Blackpink prepares to return to the spotlight with a new musical era. In early July, YG Entertainment revealed that the group would be returning with new music in August and would subsequently embark on the “largest world tour in the history of a K-Pop girl group” by the end of 2022.

The 2022 VMAs will air on August 28th at 5PM PST.
