Billie Eilish has officially addressed the speculation about her sexual orientation.
In a new red-carpet interview with Variety at the publication’s Hitmakers event this week, Billie confirmed she is part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The singer was asked to address comments she made during her recent cover interview for Variety‘s The Power of Women issue, in which she said she is attracted to women but feels intimidated by them.
“I’m still scared of [women], but I think they’re pretty,” Billie gushed on the red carpet.
The 21-year-old admitted that she didn’t mean to come out in the interview, but thought it was obvious that she was part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“I kinda thought, ‘Wasn’t it obvious?’ I didn’t realize people didn’t know,” she said. “I just don’t really believe in [coming out]. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist?’”
Billie spoke to several topics in her cover story interview, from how she feels growing up in the public eye, to the success of ‘What Was I Made For?,’ to her relationship with womanhood.
While opening up about the latter, she revealed she is attracted to women.
“I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well… I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real,” she said. “I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life. I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”
While many took this as an indication that Billie was queer, confirmation from the singer herself has excited fans.
Congratulations to Billie!
