Sia is stepping in to show support for FKA twigs after the musician went public with her story of abuse at the hands of actor Shia LaBeouf.
Over the weekend, The New York Times reported that FKA twigs is suing Transformers star, Shia LaBeouf, for alleged “relentless” mental, emotional, and physical abuse during their romantic relationship.
The artist, who’s real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, told the publication in an interview about the lawsuit that LaBeouf physically assaulted her, locked her in small spaces with him against her will, and isolated her from friends and family. She claims LaBeouf belittled her, criticised her, forced her to sleep naked, and set rules about how many times a day she should kiss and touch him.
FKA twigs characterised the abuse she endured at the hands of LaBeouf as “the worst thing I’ve ever been through in the whole of my life”.
“He brought me so low, below myself, that the idea of leaving him and having to work myself back up just seemed impossible,” she said of feeling trapped in her relationship. She told The Times that she is speaking out in hopes of raising awareness of “the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency”.
Stylist Karolyn Pho, another one of Shai LaBeouf’s ex-girlfriends, detailed similar experiences of abuse to The New York Times.
Now, Australian singer-songwriter Sia is speaking out against Shia LaBeouf as well. The 44-year-old took to Twitter yesterday to share her support for FKA twigs and revealed that she was also in an abusive relationship with the actor.
“I too have been hurt emotionally by Shia, a pathological liar, who conned me into an adulterous relationship claiming to be single,” Sia tweeted. “I believe he’s very sick and have compassion for him AND his victims. Just know, if you love yourself- stay safe, stay away.”
The Music director followed this by calling FKA twigs’ decision to come forward “courageous” and wrote “I’m very proud of you.”
Sia cast LaBeouf in her controversial ‘Elastic Heart’ music video back in 2015. LaBeouf was in a relationship with actress Mia Goth at the time.
