Olivia Rodgrio has spoken out in support of women’s access to abortion in America.
While performing in Washington, DC on her SOUR tour Wednesday night, the 19-year-old addressed the impending repeal of the crucial US abortion case law, Roe v Wade.
“Our bodies should never be in the hands of politicians,” she said. “I hope we can raise our voices to protect our right to have a safe abortion, which is a right that so many people before us have worked so hard to get.”
Olivia’s statement is in response to Monday’s news that American women are at risk of losing access to legal abortion.
This news was brought to light by Politico, who published a leaked document suggesting the country’s Supreme Court is on track to overturn the 1973 ruling, Roe v Wade, which legalises abortion at a federal level.
Olivia is amongst several celebrities that have spoken out in support of women’s reproductive rights amid the impending overturn including Billie Eilish, Hilary Duff, Lena Dunham, Harry Styles, and Pheobe Bridgers, who shared she had an abortion in October 2021.
A final decision on the overturn of Roe v Wade has not yet been made at the time of publication.
