In the video, which was posted in 2021, Mikayla said, “I’m feeling like a f—ing asshole today, so I’m going to fire back at people because I’m tired.”

“Every single day, I get up at 6AM. I spend about 5-6 hours filming video content that ranges from 3-4 videos and then I spent a few hours editing that video content,” she clapped back. “Then I have to work on my other social media profiles, whatever it may be.”

Mikayla went on to say that she’s then in meetings from 12-5PM, claiming she “literally just finished working” at 5:19 that day.

“Try being an influencer for a day, try it. Because the people who say it’s easy are so far out of their minds. Try it for a day,” she challenged.

While the video received backlash when it was first posted last year, it was reportedly reposted (and has since been deleted) by a third-party account after it was rumoured that Mikayla charges between $55K-$85K for a sponsored TikTok.

The clip went viral last week, with thousands of people sharing their work schedule to the sound of Mikayla saying, “I literally just finished working, it’s 5:19. Try being an influencer for a day, try it.”

This led internet users to dig up old comments that Mikayla had written on Instagram posts by YouTube beauty creator Jaclyn Hill.

“Must be nice to be rich and all you do is film videos for YouTube,” Mikayla allegedly wrote on a video Jaclyn shared of her bedroom in 2018.

On a photo of Jaclyn and her now-fiancé, Jordan Farnum, Mikayla reportedly commented, “I’m not into that man bun,” referencing Jordan’s hairstyle.

On several other posts, she apparently stuck with a simple, “Yikes”.

In her response video, Mikayla starts by making light of the situation, joking that she can’t film if it’s after 5:19PM.

She goes on to thank her fans for showing her love and support during this time.

On the resurfaced video, Mikayla explains that she made it in response to a hate comment at a time when she was new to influencing, “emotions were running high” and she was “having a shit day.”

“I made a video that I absolutely should not have made and I regret making it. And there’s a reason, a year and a half ago, why I deleted that video and I apologised because it was wrong of me, but everyone has f—ing bad days.”

Mikayla contiues, saying it broke her heart that the audio was taken out of context to make it seem like she believes she works harder than others. She admits that being an influencer comes with “privileges and blessings” and says that anyone who watches her every day knows she loves her job.

She then addresses the comments she made on Jaclyn Hill’s Instagram posts when she was around 19-years-old, saying this situation is a “fantastic example of karma.”

“I grew up a very jealous person,” she says. “And I would f—ing comments like that on Jaclyn[‘s posts], or whoever I idolised because I was extremely f—ing jealous. Jealously ruined my life for a long time.”

Mikayla claims she spoke to Jaclyn about those comments “months ago” and apologised to her personally.

“We support redemption. We believe in redemption on this page,” she continues. “Cancel culture doesn’t fly on my page. We support growth, we support redemption, we support apologetic people. We support each other with kindness.”

Mikayla finishes by saying she will be taking a step away from content creation to get seek treatment for her depression, which she’s been struggling with for months. She insists this is not related to her recent controversy.
