Just another example of AOC being completely in tune with what’s necessary.
US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has joined Twitch to connect with young Americans over their latest favourite pastime, the multiplayer social deduction game Among Us.
AOC floated the idea past her 9.1 million followers on Twitter yesterday, asking if anyone wanted to join her in a friendly match, noting she had never played the game before.
Within hours, the viral congresswoman received thousands of responses from users, gamers, and professional streamers alike, excited to join her on Twitch. She scheduled her first live-stream game with multiple high-profile figures, including fellow Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota Ilhan Omar and Twitch streamers HasanAbi, Pokimane, and Disguised Toast for today at 9PM ET.
At the start of the stream— which is currently on-going at the time of publication— AOC spoke directly to her audience on the importance of voter registration and voting the Trump administration out of office. The iconic politician also mounted a sign on the wall behind her that reads, “IWillVote.Com“— which links to a website to help Americans register to vote.
The stream has brought in over 400K+ viewers on AOC’s channel alone.
Its growing popularity amongst Gen-Z and Millennials aside, Among Us is totally on-brand for AOC’s push for voter registration amongst youth. The whodunnit-style game asks participants to cast a vote each round on who they peg as the killer. Once a player has voted, their avatar displays a badge saying, “I voted”— similar to the “I voted” sticker Americans receive at poll stations.
