After being at the centre of one of the Internet’s most hotly-debated love triangles (Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter, we’re looking at you), it seems Joshua Bassett has indirectly answered all our burning relationship questions— or so Twitter thinks.
The Feel Something singer and star of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series recently sat down with Clevver News for an interview, during which he was asked “When are you collaborating [with] Harry Styles? That day will be the literal death of me.”
While Joshua replied that there are currently no plans to collaborate, he followed up by saying “What is it that I admire about Harry Styles?” Before answering his own question: “He’s a very classy man, he’s also very well-rounded. He kind of does it all—acting, singing, fashion…and I think that he’s just a nice guy. He doesn’t say too much but when he talks, it matters what he says. He’s cool, he’s just cool. Who doesn’t think Harry Styles is cool? Also, he’s hot, you know? He’s very charming too…lots of things.”
He then goes on to say “This is also my coming out video, I guess…” before moving onto the next question.
A day later, Joshua seemingly confirmed the news, by posting a sweet Instagram video of him singing, with the caption:
“[My] entire life people have told me my sexuality. people have shamed me for things they know nothing about. I want to say thank you to those of you who stand for love and acceptance. [Toxicity], hatred, and negativity say less about the subject, but say far more about those who spew it. [It’s] 2021. we are the generation of love & growth, it’s time we start acting like it. whether you love me, hate me, or damn me to hell, i love you all the same.
[Love] who you love shamelessly. it’s ok to still be figuring out who you are. life’s too short to let ignorance and hatred win. i choose love.❤️?????”
Due to the low-key nature of the announcement, some remain confused, however a majority of users on both Twitter and TikTok have been quick to congratulate the star. Many have also commented on the aforementioned love triangle plot twist.
While the actor has never openly commented on his sexuality before, he has posted Twitter notes in the past condemning toxic masculinity.
Whether the comment was intended as an announcement or not, I think we can all agree Harry Styles is the GOAT.
