Twitter Is Freaking Out Over Chloe x Halle’s Skincare Routine

Resurfaced tweets and online backlash is par for the course with celebrities in the Twitter-sphere.

Enter: Chloe and Halle Bailey. And their controversial skincare routine.

Over the weekend, a 2018 tweet resurfaced from R&B duo Chloe x Halle sharing what they use to keep their skin hydrated and clear.

“For everyone asking… our skin routine,” wrote the Grammy-nominated sisters: “Moistuizer = coconut oil. Toner = rose water/witch hazel. Makeup remover = olive oil.” The duo included two super sweet selfies, showing off their luminous skin.

While there’s no denying that Chloe, 22, and Halle, 20, are blessed with flawless complexions, skincare Twitter is quick to warn fans against mimicking this routine— namely for their use of coconut oil as moisturiser.

“This is why you don’t take skincare advice from people genetically clear skin cause babayyy,” wrote licensed esthetician @selenashines in response to the original tweet.

Many shared similar sentiments to Selena, joking that their skin “broke out” and “cried” reading the girls’ skincare routine. One user compared their routine to “that friend who always eat whatever she wants and still looks like a Victoria’s Secret model.

Despite its life-saving reputation in recent years, coconut oil is highly comedogenic and actually acts more like a wax on the skin rather than a hydrating oil. Basically, it can’t penetrate the skin’s barrier and thus sits on top, leading to clogged pores and breakouts. Because coconut oil can’t actually absorb, it also results in extremely dry skin.

Some tagged Skincare by Hyram, who recently garnered millions of followers as the internet’s go-to skin expert thanks to his wildly popular videos reacting to celebrity skincare routines.

Amidst the backlash were some who came to the girls defence.

“Everyone’s skin is different and does change,” wrote @ashawoofsucess. “5 years ago I used to use just a witch hazel face wash and coconut oil as moisturizer, now my skin could never even.”

Others expressed their support for Beyoncé’s mentees, saying if it works for them skincare Twitter should leave them alone.

Chloe x Halle have not responded to the Twitter frenzy and we have a feeling the genetically blessed sisters probably never will.

But regardless of your skincare preferences, we always suggest consulting a licensed professional, doing your own research, and leaving the coconut oil for your hair masks.
