Since coming out as part of the LGBTQIA+ community in January 2021, Jojo Siwa has become a steadfast inspiration for young queer kids. With constant messaging and support of being yourself, despite what others might say, Jojo has defended her gay fans countless times, including actively speaking out against homophobia– something that has inspired action during her latest show.

Recently, during the Columbia leg of her D.R.E.A.M tour, Jojo revealed that she was “inspired” by a tweet from someone in the crowd before the show.

The tweet read “hey jojo. [I’m] coming to the concert tonight. Please dont say you’re gay”.

Being the vocal person she is, Jojo instead said, “I’m going to take their advice and not going to say it, but instead I’m going to do this,” and proudly held up a rainbow pride flag with her face on it. As the entire stadium cheered, Jojo wrapped the flag around herself and gave a delightful speech about how “…being who you are is the most important thing ever.”

D.R.E.A.M Tour Speeches

While this particular speech was unique in it’s direct response to a negative tweet, it is actually a common occurrence for Jojo to make these inspirational speeches during her shows.

Dressed in a glittery baseball outfit, Jojo will often sit at a piano and speak to the audience about being yourself, sharing her own experience with dealing with haters and assuring the audience that despite the hate you get in life, “…[is] not your problem. No matter who you are, I want to tell you that YOU are just right…I love you for who YOU are.”

The reception to these speeches are largely positive, with loud cries of support and adoration being heard in the background of the videos. Despite some of concert goers in the comments reporting that parents are often unhappy with these speeches (some even walking out of the concert), there seems to be no. video evidence to support this.

Jojo’s One Year Anniversary

Jojo recently celebrated her one year coming out anniversary on the 22nd of January, where she shared a reflective post about the past year and the experiences she has had while being ‘out’.

She states that “…In the last 365 days i’ve never felt more love than ever.” The photo that accompanies her statement is a repost of the same photo she used a year ago to come out, a  photo of her wearing a shirt saying “Best. Gay. Cousin. Ever.”

Jojo Siwa continues to be positive role model for a young generation with her advocacy and constant positive attitude, while also being amazing representation for queer youth.
