Selena Gomez has broken her silence on the Call Her Daddy interview.
Taking to TikTok live on Thursday, Selena addressed the hateful messages she’s seen from fans lately (presumably directed at Hailey Bieber), calling them “vile and disgusting”.
Selena’s message comes off the back of this week’s Call Her Daddy interview with Hailey Bieber in which the model discussed the love triangle between herself, her husband Justin Bieber, and Selena.
During the hour-long sit-down with host Alex Cooper, Hailey denied that she started talking to Justin again while he was still dating Selena.
“But I just know what was going on when we got back together, and I know what had to happen for that to come back together in a healthy way. And I think it was the most healthy, mature decision that he could’ve made, and I respect that,” she said. “As a woman, I would never want to get into a relationship with someone and be engaged to them and be getting married to them and think in the back of my mind, I wonder if that was really like, closed for you. And I know for a fact that the reason we were able to get back together was because it was very much completely closed. And that is respectful to me.”
She also suggested that Selena had never defended her against the hate Jelena fans have spewed at Hailey over the years— something Selena supporters were quick to debunk as the Lose You To Love Me singer actually did ask her fans not to attack anyone during an Instagram live in 2019.
One day after the interview aired, Selena broke her silence on TikTok live— thanking fans for their support while reminding them that their words matter.
“I think some of the things that I don’t even need to be aware of are just vile and disgusting and it’s not fair and no one ever should be spoken to in the manner that I’ve seen,” she said.
“All I have to say is it’s incredibly ironic that I would release something that is all about kind words, ’cause that’s exactly what I want. That’s it,” she continued, referencing her new Rare Beauty matte lipstick collection titled Kind Words. “If you support Rare, I cannot thank you enough but know that you are also representing what it means and that is…words matter. Truly matter.”
“So it’s coming from me, and I just want all of you to know that I hope that you understand that this is much bigger than anything else. I’m really grateful to all of you for hearing me out, so have a wonderful rest of your day, and I appreciate all the love. Thank you.”
While Selena did not explicitly mention Hailey in the clip, there is no denying that the vitriol directed at both women over the past 24 hours has been intense.
Here’s hoping the haters listen this time.
