NikkieTutorials On Elle Degeneres, Talks Coming Out, Blackmail and Transitioning

Off the back of her courageous coming out video, Nikkie de Jager AKA NikkieTutorials appeared on the Ellen Degeneres Show today.

Ellen’s team invited Nikkie to the show after seeing her video, which has now amassed over 32 million views.

Nikkie’s been keeping fans up to date on Twitter, writing earlier this week that she was at the airport flying to LA to be on the show and that she couldn’t believe it.

During the segment, Nikkie detailed how she was blackmailed into coming out, saying “A couple of weeks ago, I got emails from a certain person. And he was not okay with the fact that I was ‘lying’ and wanted to expose that. He had a very pressuring tone of voice and he was like, if we don’t get an answer by tomorrow, it’s out.”

She said she believes his goal was to ruin her life. “But plot twist,” she told Ellen. “That didn’t happen.”

Nikkie’s suspected blackmailer is her former cameraman. He apparently saw a piece of her ID while traveling with the YouTube star which labeled her sex as “male.” This has not been confirmed by Nikkie.

Nikkie recalled how nervous she was to upload the video, saying her fiancé helped her make the decision and encouraged her to share her truth. She told Ellen her fears dissipated once she saw the outpour of love and acceptance across social media.

On her transition, Nikkie emphasized how amazing her mum was, “My mom was a queen.”

Nikkie explained that doctors told her mum to “not push it too far” when Nikkie expressed a desire to wear women’s clothes growing up. She told Ellen she’s so grateful that her mum didn’t listen to those doctors, saying “She was like, if you want to wear girl clothes, you’re going to wear them.”

Ellen asked Nikkie if she would have come out if she hadn’t been blackmailed.

“I always wanted to come out with it. But it is such a delicate thing— how do you find the timing?” Nikkie shared. “But now I get to be free.”

Though the situation was less than ideal, Nikkie said she’s thankful it happened when it did. She acknowledged that she’s privileged to have transitioned early and to be a blonde caucasian transgender woman who looks cis.

Nikkie finished by saying she hopes her story will inspire other transgender men and women to live authentically and be themselves.

Just when we thought we couldn’t stan any harder.
