Nominations for the 12th annual Shorty Awards are officially here.
The Shorty Awards, held each year in New York City, is an award ceremony that honours social media creators across varying platforms including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Twitch. The awards have also extended into categories for music and acting in recent years.
Contrary to traditional Hollywood award ceremonies, creators don’t typically have any insight into whether they’re going to be nominated or not. So when the 2020 nominations were announced this morning, creators across the internet were shook.
And naturally, they took to Twitter.
Here’s how creators are reacting to their Shorty Award nominations.
Jeffree Star wrote that being nominated for YouTuber of the Year is “humbling.” He also shared that he will be voting for Mr. Beast, who many feel was robbed of the 2019 Streamy Award for Creator of the Year. Mr. Beast lost the award to Tana Mongeau back in December, causing an uproar on social media with many saying Tana didn’t deserve the award…including her then-husband Jake Paul. Awks.
Eugenia Cooney was also nominated for YouTuber of the Year off the back of her collaboration with Shane Dawson in July 2019. This is Eugenia’s first nomination and she tweeted saying she never thought she’d be nominated.
Roxxaurus said she doesn’t deserve to be nominated for YouTuber of the Year. She thanked the Shorty Awards and her fans for the nomination, saying she is “so blessed.” She followed it up with a tweet asking fans to vote, saying she’s never won anything in her life.
Another member of Shane Dawson’s crew, Morgan Adams (sister to Ryland, Shane’s fiancé), was nominated for YouTube Comedian of the Year and seemed very surprised by the nomination.
Kiera Bridget is another YouTube Comedian of the Year nominee who was surprised to be nominated for the category, tweeting that she’s “not even that funny.” Lol.
YouTube Comedian of the Year nominee, Not Even Emily, joked that voting for her will make you sexy.
Best YouTube Ensemble nominees, Dwayne N Jazz, called the nomination an honour. Many fans have already tweeted back to the couple saying they’ve voted for them.
Though they spelled her name wrong, Best in Fashion nominee and famous drag queen, Aquaria, replied to the Shorty Awards official announcement saying she’s “feeling the love.” The Shorty Awards tweeted back, saying they’re so sorry about the misspelling. Oops.
Another Best in Fashion nominee, Aaron Philip wrote that she’s “screaming” and is so grateful. She’s up against one of her faves Adut Akech, who recently won Model of the Year at the 2019 British Fashion Awards.
Thrilled to be recognised for her activism, Amanda Nguyen tweeted that she “still can’t believe it.” She’s nominated for Best in Activism.
Other nominees include Hype House’s Avani Gregg for TikToker of the Year, NikkieTutorials for YouTuber of the Year, Nikita Dragun for Best in Beauty, Billie Eilish and Lizzo for Best in Music…and the World Record Egg for Instagrammer of the Year.
